"When Preference Trumps Principle"

With all due respect...

Bible-Believing Christians should not be surprised to see the recent outcomes of the Republican primaries across America, since preference appears to have trumped principle in our Churches for some time. There is no doubt that those that have continued the "good fight of faith", have slowly grown "weary in well-doing", watching so many leave the principles that was once passed down from our parents and preached from our pulpits. But what happens when the fight for principle ceases to be good in its outcome/results? Many Bible-Believing Christians are now deciding to allow "Preference to Trump Principle" (literally) by stating they prefer the "lesser of two evils". With all due respect to my friends, family, and brethren...does the fight for faith and principle cease to be good for America because it may lead to a unpleasant and uncomfortable result? The Apostle Paul declared emphatically, "Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful" (I Corinthians 4:2). Should we not be more concerned with being faithful to our principles rather than the fruit that we prefer???

Please keep in mind, as a Bible-Believing Christian, the “flesh” does not mind preferring the “lesser of two evils” when making important decisions. But the struggle/difficulty begins when the Spirit (principle) contradicts your “flesh” (preference).

The struggle and difficulty that we are facing when voting this election is not wrong, for it is evidence that we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within our heart, and He is "guiding us in all truth (principle). However, the wrong occurs when we allow our preferences to overcome our principles.

Three Observations:

1. Why are we in this situation?

A majority of Bible-Believing Christians, in the South, claiming to be principled, preferred an unprincipled/a-moral Presidential Candidate. By the way, no one claims the other 17 choices were perfect. (Jerry Fallwell Jr.- “I’m not voting for a Pastor”)(“We need an outsider/business man”).

2. What do we do now?

A minority of “Bible-Believing Christians” who voted, not for man or a perfect candidate, but for Principle, are now deciding to vote for Preference. (Someone has said, “I am struggling with this decision…but I will vote for the lesser of two evils”.) If you are struggling with this decision, the Spirit (principle) is still contradicting the flesh (preference). How is it right to surrender your "Principle" now just because you prefer the results of a "lesser than two evils"?

3. How do you deal with those that may/may not “Prefer” the “lesser of two evils”?

The Prophet Samuel gives the Bible-Believing Christian guidance;

I Samuel 8:5-9 "And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. 8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. 9 Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them."

Notice that Samuel never had a “preference” between “sons that that walk not in thy ways” and a “king to judge us like all nations”. Samuel was commanded only to protest solemnly.

If you, as a Bible-Believing Christian, have come to peace with “Preference Trumping Principle”, then, God Bless You…Vote for your Man. But please allow those Bible-Believing Christians, who allow "Principle to Trump Preference", to “PROTEST SOLEMNLY”, by voting a third-party or write-in candidate.

May God bless America and may America, once again, bless God!!!

“If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures.”- Alexander Hamilton
